I am a professor of social movements and have been working on a book and film on Native women's activism for a few years now. I am sort of doing things backwards, my twenties were awesome and I accomplished all kinds of things - now in my thirties I am realizing that I need a personal life, that I need some balance and reciprocity in my relationships. Like lots of people, I never thought it would be difficult to meet people, it was never a problem before. It's safe to say that I am pretty outgoing and not shy of sharing my opinions and feelings - about myself and social change - yet I try not to take myself too seriously. Friends laugh at my jokes. My parents are proud of me - I adore them. My dog is gangsta cocker spaniel from a shelter in South Dakota - I think he was a breed reject because his docked tail is too long and kind of creepy and he has a lazy eye - he loves me unconditionally! I find it really difficult trying to describe what I want in a person - I can make some long list of characteristics but that seems unnatural - it's pretty simple, I want to be with someone who believes in changing the world and tries his best to be a decent person everyday. Sometimes that means you have to be strong and stand for things when others won't - I don't have much respect for people focused on money and status, but I understand the need for basic stability in a crazy and increasingly chaotic world. I like smart as well as stupid movies, True Blood - Dave Chappelle is a comic genius and I miss him greatly - I like 70s funk, Sly and the Family Stone, Creedence Clearwater Revival - early hip hop before it was highjacked by gangsta rap. One of the things I miss is laughing more - I love to laugh -it's an awesome feeling and I want it experience it more. Okay, I will update this at some point because I feel weird writing about myself so much - I am much better in person - it's kind of my thing - like I can explain things sooooo much better than writing.
