If you've participated in grassroots politics, please share the campaign you worked on, and how you feel about what took place.

.Have worked on protecting Social Security, development reform (controlling rampant development in my state), automatic rights restoration for felons, climate change, indigenous rights, etc. Civil rights and environmental protection are eternal battles to be fought for the duration of the human race. I am just doing my little bit. |

`forestsprite . . . Do you mean voting rights? I hope not because I thought the point of prison was to rehabilitate? Aren't we a country of 2nd chances? Yes they did something wrong but you might as well deport them if you are going to deny them one of the greatest benefits of citizenship. They pay taxes, they should be able to vote.

`I think grassroots have grown in popularity due to America's youth getting tired of the present administration tearing this country up for so long. And now look, we are in the biggest economic crisis ever. It is always so easy to point fingers and say, "It is their fault!" Yes, we know whose fault it is, but we do need to fix it. Throwing money at a problem might make it temporarily go away, but it is not a permanent fix. The more control we give our politicians, the more they can take advantage of us. It is up to grass roots organizations that can say, "Hey! Wait a minute! We don't want things the old way. It obviously is not working. It's time for a change. Let's try it this way instead." Small steps lead to big changes.

`America has been since the liberation of African american rights, seeing its youth thinking about the changes implemented by Govt, they view it as dis honest and not a performer. I agree countries all over the world have now diverted their politics or even political view as natural as possible or Grassroots.
The problem with Mainstream politics is that it does not see both sides for two reasons 1: Most politicians come from upper class societies, where it is seen as the more a man has wealth, the stronger he can change the world and 2: There view of fairness is considered by themselves as greed i.e how a policy may not affect them but rather benefit.
Suffice to say although there are a few if any down with the PEOPLE type of politicians who view themselves not as Politicians but rather community servant, most people in Govt unfortunately fall under the terms described previously.
Until the perception of change is perceived as Natural in its raw beauty and mystery, then Man shall not progress.
